With a vision of bridging gap between rural and urban school students, Indian Institute of Management- Indore (IIM-I) students have started an initiative called 'Jagruti' to bring a sense of brotherhood between the two sections of the society.

Under the theme- 'A fist full of rice and a heart full of life', the IIM-I students have started an educational- cum- social initiative. They have collaborated with top urban schools of the city to help attract rural schoolchildren to education.

The students have mobilised urban schoolchildren for the cause. These children go to rural areas with IIM-I students and distribute rice to rural children for attending various educational programmes which the group organises.

"We organise exciting games and educational events for rural children. Urban school children play a vital role in conducting these events. Later, we give the participants a bowl full of rice as an incentive for participation," said IIM-I student and organiser Tejaswini Mantha.

She said that urban schools should understand struggle of the rural children in attending school.

"We have received very warm response from both the categories."

Since this is the inspection year, IIM-I students would assist urban schoolchildren to go to the rural areas and proceed with the initiative.

The annual fest of the institute Mridang 2012 will start from February 12.

"The vision of Mridang 2012 is to make the society understand the true value of education and the theme too revolves around education and children," said Tejaswini.
