Can anybody explain this relation to me ,y(x,t)=asin(kx-wt+theta)where y is the displacement of a particle from equilibrium position,k is wave costant,x is the position of the constituents of medium,w is angular frequency and theta is phase angle.

the equation tells the position of the wave with time....say if u keep the time to b constant,then the equation gives the displacement of each particle from the mean position along the length...if we keep distance of the particle to b fixed,ie if we take one single particle the equation gives the displacement of the particle with time from the mean position
